Passion

The Shannon B. Jones Passion Pursuit for Creative Learning

   “Shannon’s Passion Pursuit”

Shannon had a gift.  She saw the hidden spark in the soul of each child and teacher she
knew.  Shannon had the amazing ability to use her gift to help children discover not only
the world around them but, ultimately, themselves.  She acted as a mentor to these
children, meeting and communicating with them as they explored their passions and
talents together.  Shannon was excited about every child’s passion, no matter the topic.
If she did not have the background knowledge to directly help, she found someone who
did.  Shannon will be missed greatly by everyone who knew her and whom she
touched.

As part of Shannon’s legacy, the Shannon B. Jones Passion Pursuit Foundation
was established to celebrate and continue Shannon’s unique passion for passing on the
love of learning and igniting that spark in a child’s soul.

Every year an annual grant from the foundation is directed to be used to enable
one or more individuals pursue their passion. The grant can be used for learning and
exploration beyond their normal curriculum.  Application for a grant is open to all current
students at selected institutions.  In order to apply, a “mentor” that has identified the individual’s passion, will work
with the individual to present a narrative, using a vehicle of their choice, that describes their
passion and their past efforts in pursuit of this passion.  They should include what goals
they have that a grant will help them achieve, a proposed budget for what the grant
would cover, and if possible identify the desired mentor or the qualities that they seek in
a mentor.

Applications will be due approximately the first week of April each year.  Applications will be reviewed by a
committee comprised of Shannon’s husband, Jason Bardales or his designate, an
administrator and teacher from the student’s institution, along with any available
members of the Foundation Board of Directors. The grant recipient or recipient’s names
will be announced at an all-school assembly. The maximum annual funds awarded
shall not exceed $2,500.00.  The award winner or winners will have the opportunity to
present their creative work or learnings to the school community and members of the
board at the conclusion of the award year.
